Although The Magnificent Men in Their Rob Rob Canoes was first published in 2012, Paul was unable to source copies but has recently learned that the author’s daughter Ruth has the last copies.
The author Jim Parnell died in August 2022.

The book is a history of the three Park Brothers who lived in Hokitika, in the late 1800s, who built the first Rob Roy style canoes in New Zealand, formed a canoe club in 1886 and went on to achieve several outstanding paddling adventures. One of their best was a trip across the South Island, up the Taramakau River, a portage down over Harper Pass, and a paddle down the Hurunui River to near Christchurch.

The canoe One One, built by James Park, will feature in Paul Caffyn’s canoe and kayak wing of a planned Shantytown adventure museum.
